Our goal is to create sustainable inclusive development, foster communal harmony, and work in partnership with impoverished, marginalised, and excluded communities in Odisha to ensure their rights and entitlements. We also aim to collaborate with civil society organisations to work towards the socioeconomic empowerment of our partner communities.
Founded as a society in 1995, VICALP is a grassroots organisation that has operated in six districts over the years, encompassing 21 blocks, within the Indian state of Odisha. VICALP began in the Gajapati district and over time expanded its direct operations to the districts of Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Jajpur. Currently, it is active in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Gajapati. The group was founded by and is staffed with members/ people who are mostly from the villages, are members of Dalit, Adivasi, and underprivileged populations in the area, and have worked for a variety of local and Indian non-governmental organisations.
Through addressing poverty and inequality, the Visionaries of Creative Action for Liberation & Progress (VICALP) works to promote social justice, equality, collaboration, human rights, and communal peace while working towards the holistic and sustainable development of Adivasis, Dalits,Women and the impoverished. Through the activation of our constitutional rights, freedoms, and obligations, VICALP acknowledges and confirms a commitment to nonviolent action and the possibility of social change.
