The target communities of VICALP are mostly the rural poor, who reside in scheduled districts and rural regions. This group includes Adivasis, Dalits, OBCs, Women and the impoverished in general. These groups have coexisted as natural allies and neighbours for generations. Their shared history of "living together" is evident in their affinities in sociocultural behaviour, values and beliefs, rituals, and traditions, as well as their interdependence in the economy. In addition, they have seen one another as allies, friends in need, partners in both private and public endeavours, and counsellors during difficult, contentious, and crisis situations. These groups have endured centuries of social and economic marginalisation and are at the bottom of the socioeconomic scale. These communities continue to experience extreme poverty, with comparably high rates of deprivation and maternal and infant mortality.
Our goal is to create sustainable inclusive development, foster communal harmony, and work in partnership with impoverished, marginalised, and excluded communities in Odisha to ensure their rights and entitlements. We also aim to collaborate with civil society organisations to work towards the socioeconomic empowerment of our partner communities.
